Peanut has BLING!

On Saturday, September 12th, 2009, we took Alyssa to get her ears pierced. I must say we were going back and forth on the issue and we decided to go to the mall and see. My friend owns a Merle Norman and she gladly did it. Alyssa was all smiles while she marked her and then we she brought out the gun. Steph shot the gun and Alyssa jumped. She didn't cry until five seconds later, then we were all done. As soon as she was up in our arms she was fine. All smiles again, now she looks super cute with her bling. :)

It happened.

Our Alyssa is going through her first cold/allergy attack. I say that because it could be either. I noticed a little bit of a rash on her back two days after I gave her applesauce, then her symptoms started. Poor baby, I know she doesn't feel well but she is still the happiest baby in the world.

Dear Alyssa,

Feel better.

I love you.

Mommy.

Our Peanut Pie is FIVE months!!

After holding my Peanut until she was ready to go to sleep, I laid in bed thinking, "Where has the time gone? And why did it go so fast?" My teeny, tiny little baby is not so little anymore. She is growing so fast and although I am excited to see what life brings us now, it's still a little bittersweet. I remember the phase she had where she wouldn't sleep unless she was on our chests. I got so worked up and so scared she was never going to lose this habit. But it went just as fast as it came. Now, I get so emotional because she will not have it. She wants to sleep in her room, in her crib, across the hall from us. I know it seems a little silly but it already seems that she is developing more of a sense of independency. Sometimes I wish she was still so little and so new but lets face it, she's not. She is only going to get bigger, louder and sassier. Right now, we are just going to enjoy having a healthy and happy FIVE month old.

(Dear God... Please make time go slower. Thank you, April.)

Back to Work, Playing Hard and Losing Sleep...

So when I last wrote Alyssa was done with her sleep regression. It lasted about five days. It was sooo awful. We were up about every hour. But then it stopped and we were getting our glorious 8 hours of sleep at night!! Perfect timing since I would be returning to work soon. I landed this awesome job with the University of Texas Dental Branch (Go Horns!) and I love it so much, the only thing that is brutal is the 6 o' clock alarm and the hour traffic. Since God has such an amazing humor, Alyssa started teething that week too. So we were back at waking up every hour on the hour, just like she was a newborn. Luckily, I have the world's greatest husband that gets up with her so I can get some sleep. (Bout damn time!) Jk, but not really. Anyway that lasted for a week and a half and we were about to lose it when I decided to swaddle her again. Voila! We got 10 hours of sleep. Praise Jesus, yall! So Alyssa loves to be swaddled. And she loves her Jumperoo. So much she even sleeps in it. Check out the video of our little comedian:

We have already noticed Alyssa has a bit of a personality. She is quite an outspoken baby but also very reserved. She also is very attentive. She looks at you and observes what you're doing and she tries to imitate it. Genius, I tell you, genius.

Our Peanut has a Peanut head!!

It seems four months have just come and gone and it feels like yesterday when we were bringing home a newborn. I remember feeling scared shitless and wondering if I would be cut out for this. Then Carlos said to me, "There is no time for buyer's remorse. We don't even have a receipt!" That's when I realized...."This is serrrrioussssss!!!!" Our time has been filled with lots of joy, poop and drool!! Alyssa is getting so big and growing more and more into a little person. Right now she can roll over both ways, grasp and grab for toys, she loves to sing (especially when she's sleepy), and she scoots all over the place. She has had her first real laughs and has discovered her voice and toes. She has already been through the four month sleep regression (WE SURVIVED!!) and she realized Charlie is her best friend. At her four month check up she weighed 14 lbs, 5 oz. and she was 25 1/4 inches long. She is getting so big!! Except for her head...which is 16 inches, Lord knows she didn't inherit Carlos's melon! We also started solids. First it was rice and she thought she was the luckiest baby in the world. Then we tried peas, and she was in heaven. Then we tried bananas....not so much in heaven. Then her favorite: Sweet potatoes!!! I think this is the funniest stage of her life...but then again I remember saying this last month!

We are so lucky in love, and we have the greatest child in the world. With a child like Alyssa, who wouldn't want more? But that's a topic for a later date!

Happy PREGO-versary!

Exactly one year ago today, Carlos and I found out we were expecting our first little miracle! I remember it so vividly:
Carlos and I agreed to stop using birth control..."Let's just see what happens!" So we go on with our lives and boy was it crazy. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary in Cancun, a week after we came back Carlos lost his job, then he went on an interview for the job he is at now, he landed it, we went out for drinks to celebrate, period was two days late, peed on a stick, NEGATIVE, went out for more drinks to celebrate, then went to work on Monday. I was draggin' ass all day long. Hurricane Edouard was coming through so I had to do the 'usual' at work. That meant lifting all the computers and lifting all the files so they wouldn't get flooded but, I was sodangtired! I called in my techs and they helped me. Then on the way home I thought, "What the hell, I'll take another test." After all my period was due two days ago. So I mad dash upstairs, whip out a pee test, aim, shoot, and PREGNANT! Omfg. I almost passed out. I couldn't believe it happened so fast....now...our Peanut is here and that is really where our story begins!
